Guiseley-based singer-songwriter Andy Doonan wowed the judges at the Live and Unsigned Regional Final in Manchester to earn a place in the Area Final on Sunday, May 8, in Manchester.
Andy, who sang Malcolm, from his new album Lights and Mirrors, was up against a host of solo artists and bands from all over the north.
He was well supported by a small army of fans who had travelled over the Pennines complete with special T-shirts and banners.
The 22 year-old was placed second of the five acts put through by the judges in the UK’s biggest original music competition.
Andy originally battled against hundreds of auditionees to secure a spot in the live show. His performance at The Willows in Salford – which has hosted many of the big names in show business – saw him go through to the next round and put him one step away from a final at the O2 in London.
Andy is hoping to reach the final and get the chance to perform in front of thousands of spectators and a professional judging panel, including judges from Kerrang, NME Radio and Radio One.
The best auditionees from their Regional Final Showcase also get the opportunity to play support slots with a selection of major headlining acts.
Andy’s varied musical style has been described as a mix of acoustic pop, indie and folk. He went to the same Menston St Mary’s School as three members of the Kaiser Chiefs.
