Countryside lovers are being asked to get involved in the management of Ilkley Moor at a series of volunteer days.

The Friends of Ilkley Moor is asking volunteers to help with vegetation management work between 10am and 1pm on Tuesday, March 15.

Recruits are advised to take their wellies and suitable outdoor clothing, but are not required to stay for the full three hours.

Volunteers should meet up at the car park next to Darwin Gardens, Wells Road, near the old bandstand.

The Friends hold volunteer days on the first Saturday and third Tuesday of every alternate month. Next month’s volunteer day will be on Saturday, April 2.

Wharfedale residents will also have the opportunity to learn more about the iconic moor as the Friends’ third Events and Learning Programme gets under way.

Further events planned for 2011 include pond dipping, heritage walks, bat-spotting and geocoaching – a treasure hunt using GPS equipment.
